The 171st issue of the Global Liner Performance (GLP) report released by Sea-Intelligence brings surprising data: after three consecutive months of stability, the global on-time performance saw a significant decline in October!

1. The global on-time performance decreased by 3.5 percentage points quarter-on-quarter to 61.4%

2. This is the second time this year that there has been a significant monthly decline, following three months of relative stability

3. The average delay time for delayed ships has slightly increased to 4.98 days

However, compared with the same period last year, the reliability has still improved by 11.1 percentage points, and the average delay time is 0.87 days lower than that in the same period of 2024, indicating that the overall industry is still making progress.

Among the 13 major shipping companies, there are significant differences in performance:

Maersk leads the pack with a punctuality rate of 74.1%

Hapag-Lloyd followed closely behind, with a punctuality rate of 69.6%

Mediterranean Shipping ranks third, with an on-time performance rate of 65.9%

The performance reported by the remaining nine shipping companies falls within the range of 50-60%

PIL performs the worst and has the lowest reliability, with a score of only 44.9%

Sea-Intelligence has released two alliance indicators: "all arrivals" and "trade arrivals". The data for September and October 2025 shows that:

Gemini collaboration network performs the best:

The on-time arrival rate under the "all arrivals" indicator is 88.6%

The on-time arrival rate under the "trade arrivals" indicator is 86.0%

Mediterranean Shipping followed closely behind:

The two indicators are 77.5% and 80.5% respectively

Premier Alliance lags behind:

The two figures are merely 64.6% and 54.6% respectively

Former Ocean Alliance:

The punctuality rate is 65.0% (both types of indicator data are the same)

These numbers are expected to converge once the alliance is fully deployed, but currently, the Gemini cooperative network has a clear advantage.

This decline in on-time performance is not the first. The report points out that global flight punctuality has declined for the first time since January, indicating that the aviation industry still faces significant volatility.

Although there has been some improvement compared to the same period last year, the fluctuations between months indicate that there are still uncertainties in the global supply chain, affecting the stability of shipping companies' services.
