Recently, a series of attacks targeting oil tankers have occurred in the Black Sea region. Turkish President Erdogan issued a statement strongly condemning this act that threatens navigation safety.

On December 1st, Erdogan made it clear at a press conference after the cabinet meeting that the attack that occurred in the exclusive economic zone of Türkiye was "unacceptable under any circumstances". He emphasized that such incidents seriously threatened the safety of navigation, environmental ecology, and human lives in the region, and Turkey had issued necessary warnings to all relevant parties. Erdogan further pointed out that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine had clearly developed to the extent of endangering the safety of navigation in the Black Sea, and the attack on the oil tanker marked a "worrying escalation" of the situation. He also revealed that Turkey was closely monitoring recent developments aimed at ending the conflict.

According to a report by Ukraine's National News Agency on November 29, citing internal information from Ukraine's National Security Service, the National Security Service and the Ukrainian Navy launched an attack on two oil tankers in the Black Sea using unmanned boats on the evening of November 28. The two tankers, named "Kerosene" and "Vilaret", both belonged to Russia's "Shadow Fleet" and were heading to the Russian Black Sea port city of Novorossisk. The attack caused serious damage to the two tankers, rendering them unable to continue sailing. In response, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on November 30, condemning the attack as a "terrorist attack".

According to a report from the Turkish Maritime Administration on the evening of November 28th, the tanker "Kerosene", flying the Gambian flag, exploded and caught fire due to external factors approximately 28 nautical miles off the Turkish coast. Subsequently, the tanker "Viraat", also flying the Gambian flag, reported an explosion and fire at a location approximately 35 nautical miles from the "Kerosene". This series of events has further exacerbated regional tensions.
