Overcoming challenges such as container deformation, the unloading operations of Wan Hai 503 continue to progress steadily.

  Wan Hai Lines recently updated the latest developments regarding the incident involving the “Wan Hai 503” (Wangchun). Although unloading operations at Jebel Ali Port commenced some time ago, progress remains slow and challenging. As of November 2, over 900 containers remain unloaded from the vessel.According to the unloading progress disclosed by Wan Hai Lines, the number of containers unloaded has shown a decreasing trend since operations commenced in mid-October: By October 18, 356 containers had been unloaded, leaving 1,366 remaining; By October 26, a cumulative total of 638 containers had been unloaded, leaving 1,084 remaining; and by November 2, the total unloaded reached 799, with 923 containers still awaiting unloading.

  Currently, the unloading operation faces three major challenges. First, most of the remaining containers on board are severely damaged, exhibiting deformation, melting, or structural damage. This necessitates additional support during lifting operations and real-time load monitoring to prevent secondary damage or cargo shifting.Second, the cargo hold structure itself has been compromised by prolonged high-temperature exposure. Deformed or melted support structures have created large holes and uneven surfaces, forcing the operations team to redesign lifting routes and implement stricter safety protocols.Additionally, the use of large hydraulic grabs and heavy-duty lifting equipment on-site necessitates individually positioning, separating, and hoisting each damaged container. This time-consuming process demands meticulous safety oversight throughout.Wan Hai Lines stated that the company is working closely with on-site experts to actively address these challenges and accelerate the unloading process. They emphasized that all operations are conducted under the supervision and guidance of professional teams to ensure safety and efficiency.
