Super Typhoon Ragasa is approaching, causing a complete shutdown of ports in South China. According to data from the Central Meteorological Observatory, this year's 18th typhoon,  Ragasa , has developed into the strongest typhoon in the northwest Pacific. It is expected to make landfall along the coast from Guangdong to Hainan between the early hours and afternoon of the 24th, with winds reaching levels 14-16 on the Beaufort scale. Under its influence, South China will experience exceptionally heavy rainfall.

To counter the typhoon threat, major ports in South China began closing their gates starting September 22: Shenzhen Yantian Port (YICT), Shekou Port (SCT), Chiwan Port (CCT), and Ma Wan Port (MCT) ceased operations at midnight on the 22nd; Hong Kong's HIT and MTL terminals closed at 12:00 PM on the 22nd; Guangzhou Nansha Port Phase III halted ballast operations at 4:00 AM on the 22nd and ceased all operations by 12:00 PM.

This typhoon rivals the intensity of 2018's Mangkhut and 2023's Soula, with port closures potentially lasting until the 25th-26th. The shutdown is expected to trigger a chain reaction across national ports, causing congestion in Shanghai, Ningbo, and others. Widespread delays may occur in the shipping market after ports reopen next week. Shippers and freight forwarders should closely monitor developments.
