Trump supports imposing a 500% tariff! It involves China and India! Sanctions against Russia are escalating further!

On November 16th, US President Trump publicly supported the sanctions bill proposed by the Senate, planning to impose "very strict sanctions" on any country that has commercial dealings with Russia, and imposing a maximum 500% tariff to cut off Russia's financial sources.

The bill mainly targets countries that purchase Russian energy (such as oil and natural gas) and do not "actively support Ukraine" - including:

India (an important buyer of Russian oil)

China (one of Russia's major energy customers)

In his public statement, Trump emphasized that this bill was initiated by him, and previously, due to his efforts to promote the Russia-Ukraine peace talks without supporting similar measures, this was his most explicit support statement to date. It is worth noting that in August this year, due to dissatisfaction with India's continuous large-scale purchase of Russian oil, Trump raised the equivalent tariffs on Indian-related goods to 50%.

This move is regarded as the latest measure by the United States to further intensify economic pressure on Russia. Trump added, "Iran might also be included," hinting that the scope of sanctions might continue to expand.

If the bill is passed, the imported goods of relevant countries may face "collateral" high tariffs, involving risks in supply chains such as energy, metals, and food.

However, as both China and the United States have released official documents on tariff adjustments, the Sino-US trade war has temporarily entered a "truce period". Will the plan to sanction Russia include a Chinese option? Here, a question mark needs to be drawn.
