According to K+N DHL News, Italian truck drivers are planning a nationwide strike in response to persistently high fuel costs—with fuel prices continuing to exceed the €2-per-liter mark—while shippers lack a full understanding of the energy costs included in freight rates.

Relevant industry associations have officially announced that road transport services will be suspended from April 20 to 25.

Italian road transport organizations have made it clear that they will coordinate protest activities in response to the immense pressure current fuel costs are placing on freight companies nationwide.

This action will not only involve a nationwide suspension of transport services but will also include the simultaneous organization of public rallies and demonstrations in multiple locations.

Transportation unions have also issued a call for the entire industry to halt road freight operations from April 20 to 25, citing concerns that rising diesel prices across the national road network have severely eroded operating profits.

Analysts point out that if the strike proceeds as planned, container land transport from several key European freight hubs in Italy—such as the ports of Genoa, Gioia Tauro, and Cagliari—will face significant disruptions.

It is particularly noteworthy that this planned work stoppage, lasting five working days, is highly likely to cause massive cargo backlogs at ports, triggering a chain reaction of supply chain issues.
